This application uses the NearFieldCommunications (NFC) interface of a phone to read aTransportationWorker Identification Worker (TWIC) cards issued bytheTransportation Security Administration (TSA) under theDepartmentof Homeland Security (DHS).The application is intended as a quick and easy tool forTWICcard holders to ensure their TWIC card is working and the dataisstill valid for entry into one or more maritime facilities.The application requires an Android operating system of 4.5.4orhigher (Version 5.x or higher has been tested) and thesmartphonemust support an NFC interface. For example, Samsungphones such asthe Note IV and newer are encouraged to be used forthisapplication to ensure the latest NFC support for U.S.Governmentissued contactless cards is present in the smartphone.The application only supports a phone size screen; nottablets(which typically do not support NFC).The smartphone must have the NFC interface enabled (throughtheapplication will open the NFC settings dialogue to remind thephoneowner to turn on NFC should the NFC interface not be activewhenthis application is launched).The application will connect to a TWIC card via theNFCinterface, read the static data from the card to displayuniquecard identifiers, verifies the TSA digital signatures ofaccessibledata objects and to check the expiration date of the TWICcard.This application also checks the static card identifieragainst theTSA Canceled Card List (CCL) which informs the TWIC cardholder ifthe card is still trusted by TSA.
